Benign Cancer

Benign Cancer

What is Benign Cancer?

Actually, Benign cancer is a term that’s not very well-accepted. Using a term benign to mean it’s not malignant and we use a term cancer to mean it is malignant. To say benign cancer implies that some people are worried that they have some lesion or some lump or some bump or something in their body that they’re concerned about. They go to see a doctor and perhaps it’s looked at and the doctor maybe puzzled and not quite sure what it is. He’ll often, the doctor here, she may often have the patient go see a surgeon or have somebody actually the lump or bump and we’ll have it looked at.

Now, a pathologist takes this tissue and looks at and the pathologist is the one to tell the doctor whether this particular lump, bump or tumor has been removed has features of malignancy or not. When it has a feature of malignancy, it’s growing rapidly and it has, it shows signs of unusual look to it that doesn’t look normal. A benign tumor will have a more normal look to it, it won’t be growing very fast, the pathologist, the person looking at under the microscope can really tell that’s what it is.

There are several benign tumors of the body that can occur. People can get cysts on their arms and their back and various places like that and they , folks often worry about that but quite often those turn out to be benign. Sometimes, we just keep an eye on them and if they’re not growing then we, then we really don’t take that any further, any surgery or any other particular treatment, just really observe it. There are some lesions that are more concerning, we’ll have them removed. There maybe some skin lesions that look a little bit unusual, they maybe darkly pigmented for example and we ‘ll have a dermatologist remove those but quite often they turn out not to be malignant and the patient who’s having that problem can be reassured that things are going to be alright. So, in general, benign cancers they’re out there and we do show some concern for them but in general they turn out to be quite easy to distinguish from malignant.

Different Between Malignant Cancer and Benign Cancer

What is the different between Malignant cancer and benign cancer?
There are three main characteristics typical of malignant/benign cancer, for example:

  1. Malignant cancers are usually fast growing (as opposed to benign cancers which are usually slow growing)
  2. Malignant cancers invade the tissue, in fact the name cancer means “crab”, because it invades the surrounding tissue and looks like a crab (benign cancers are usually encapsulated, therefore, do not invade the surrounding tissue)
  3. Malignant cancer cells are undifferentiated, which means that they regress back to simple cells and loose their main functions (benign cancer cells are usually well differentiated).

Those are the three main classifications, however, there are exceptions. For example, kidney cancer may look benign because it’s usually encapsulated, but it is actually malignant. Always remember by definition CANCER is MALIGNANTBENIGN is NOT CANCER it is just a growth (tumor)

Benign Cancer is ultimately the result of cells that controllable grow and do not die instantly. Normal cells in the body follow an orderly path of growth, division, and death. Programmed cell death is called apoptosis, and when this process breaks down, benign cancer begins to form. Unlike malignant cancer cells, benign cancer cells can experience programmatic death and instead not to grow and divide. But it also can leads to a mass of abnormal cells that grows out of control. Benign Cancer is a complex group of diseases with many possible causes, including:

Diagnose of Benign Cancer

What is the diagnosis of Benign Cancer?

Benign cancer grow slowly; they move the matters and organs which are next to them. In dependence on the location such a tumor can exist during the whole life of the patient and yet won’t cause any harm. Sometimes the benign cancer presses on the next located organ and it leads to its wrong functions. The benign cancer don’t give metastases and after it’s cutting out recovery returns. Benign cancer causes may be different. For example, due to genes, mutations or ecology. Like many other kinds of cancer, benign cancer are difficult to diagnose and distinguish from the other kinds on early stages. Often the difference between the benign and malignant tumors is not clear. Slow growth during many years, the absence of any symptoms for a long time is typical for these benign cancer. The main typical feature of these benign cancer is that fact that they rarely turn into malignant cancer. This fact defines the approach to the treatment.

These tumors usually do not cause benign cancer complaints and often they are defined occasionally. Benign cancer may be different. They may appear in different organs. For example, benign cancer in the kidneys may have the size from one millimeter to some centimeters. A benign cancer in the kidney doesn’t have symptoms and the treatment is not necessary here. Benign cancer in the lungs include a big quantity of the tumors and they have different peculiarities. The benign cancer in the lungs are rare. They are about seven-ten per cent from all tumors in the lungs. Nose benign cancer have the following symptoms – hard breathing, bleeding, headache, and severe eye-aches and blurring.

It is known that people who are influenced by the noisy sounds have the risk to have the benign cancer in the ears. The result of this tumor development is earring losing. Some researches were carried. The people, who regularly listen to the loud music, have the risk in three times higher. Benign cancers can appear in the lips. The lower lip has influence from smoking. And it can lead to the benign cancer development. Benign cancer can appear in the larynx. The reason of their appearance is infections. The typical symptom of the benign cancer in the larynx is hoarseness. Benign cancers in the stomach are five-ten per cent from all stomach cancer. They are often popular with people at the age of forty to fifty years old. In fact, men suffer two to four times more often than women.

Benign cancer in the ovaries are not rare. In the ovary tumor development there are some risk factors. They are genes, sterility, hysteromyoma. Usually as other benign cancer, benign cancer in the ovaries don’t have symptoms on the early stages. But the tumor grows and it begins to influence the other matters or organs. For example, the uterus can move a bit, different pains can appear. In the most cases the typical complaint is belly growth.

Thus, many people suffer from the benign cancer. Usually they don’t know about that fact that they have a tumor in the organs or in the matter. The reason of it is that the benign cancer don’t have any symptoms on the early stage. Usually the benign tumors are found occasionally. Especially during different medical examinations when a person suffers from any other disease. Thus, benign cancer causes can be different. They are genes, ecology or other diseases. The benign cancer can develop in different parts and organs of the human body. For example, they appear in the kidneys, lungs, ovaries, nose, lips and others. Usually these tumors are cut out and they don’t bother the people any more. But they can be dangerous when the benign cancer become malignant cancer.

Treatment of Benign Cancer

What is the treatment for Benign Cancer?

Treatment also varies based on the types of cancer, whether it is benign or malignant, and its location. If the cancer is benign (meaning it has no potential to spread) and is located in a “safe” area where it will not cause symptoms or affect the function of the organ, sometimes no treatment is needed.

Sometimes benign cancers may be removed for cosmetic reasons, however. Benign cancers of the brain may be removed because of their location or harmful effect on the surrounding normal brain tissue.

If a cancer is malignant, treatments include:

  • Surgery
  • Radiation
  • Chemotherapy
  • A combination of these methods

If the cancer is in one location, the goal of treatment is usually to remove the cancer with surgery. If the cancer has spread to local lymph nodes only, sometimes these can also be removed. If all of the cancer cannot be removed with surgery, the options for treatment include radiation and chemotherapy, or both. Some patients require a combination of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. However, lymphoma is rarely treated with surgery. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are most often used for treating lymphoma.
